OUR RANCH Second Hope Ranch, Inc., a Equine Rescue Organization, was founded by Shelly Scherer and her husband Gene, in January of 2007. Shelly, with family and dedicated volunteers, started Second Hope Ranch in effort to help abused, neglected and otherwise unwanted horses. Our plans are to reduce the number of unwanted horses and to improve their welfare through education and the efforts of organizations committed to the health, safety, and responsible care and disposition of these horses. Welcome to Second Hope Ranch, Inc. Our goal is to give horses and other equine a second hope at living a healthy and loving life. The staff and board at Second Hope Ranch have a combined 25 + years of experience with equine. Our main concern involves abuse, neglected and unwanted horses and work closely with Habitat for Horses in Texas in helping them with adoptions and new “home” inspections of equestrian centers and private farms. We accept all breeds in need.Second Hope Ranch, Inc. was formed because of the interest in helping horses, starting with our first adoption of a PMU foal in 2003. After the adoption, we continued to research PMU foals. After finding out the conditions that many of these horses go through, especially the immense concern with the inhumane and horrendous treatment concerning horse slaughter, we decided it was time to get involved.We are located in St. Cloud, Florida and are in the process of putting up fencing and a barn in order to be able to give these horses a loving home and a bright future. We have alternate homes for horses that need love, care and the appropriate attention needed to lead a good life and a positive future until we purchase additional property. We look forward to helping horses lead a full life while teaching humans the responsibility required of horse ownership.We are strongly committed to supporting and upholding the concepts of humane and ethical treatment of horses. We promote a concept which allows the horse to perform within its capacity, under humane conditions, as determined by an experienced, knowledgeable horse person or trainer. We also work to provide horse owners with information regarding the safe and humane upkeep of horses through our continuing educational programs. We feel that the key to preventing horse abuse and neglect is through education with seminars on proper care and feeding horses, training with experience and knowledgeable horse trainers, how to care for wounds, emergency preparedness as well as several other hands on clinics.Since we are a non-profit organization, we survive on donations, volunteer help, sponsorship, fostering and adoptions. We will also have fundraiser's, clinics and classes, and are presently working on a Pony Club, and will have more in the future.Our magazine, Central Florida Horse Connection, plays a key roll not only as an income producing business to help run Second Hope Ranch, Inc. but also educate horse owners and enthusiasts about equine ownership.
